Thursday Three: 2.21.13
If you know me at all, you're probably laughing at least a little bit right now. Why? Because this dress is probably the most predictable item on the planet I could possibly fall in love with. But can we talk about how perfect it is for just a sec? It's the most lovely shade of yellow (it comes in four other colors, if you prefer), it has a back cutout that doesn't infringe on bra territory, it was made in the USA, it has a full skirt and a not-too-twee bow, it can be dressed up or down...I could go on, as you can imagine, but I'll leave it there. (Okay, one last thing - it has pockets!) Suffice it to say that I'm delighted to have stumbled upon Fleet Collection's website. (Thanks, Instagram!)

Normally, I could hardly care less about fashion collections. But time and time again, I find myself smitten by Orla Kiely's lovely designs - and this year is no exception. I would love to step right into these photos taken by Carrie of WishWishWish...but I'll have to settle for painting my nails dark, searching for a sweet collared dress, and perfecting my beehive.

Thursday Three: 2.7.13
1. This stylish lady's outfit
I have no idea who this lady is (if anyone knows, please tell me, and I'll put up a link!). What I do know is that I adore this outfit from head to toe. Some outfits scream "I'm trying to look chic!" This one nonchalantly says "Whatever, I know I'm chic." And that makes all the difference in the world.
I don't own a sewing machine, but I'm tempted to get one just so I can buy and make this gorgeous pillow. Galaxy prints seem to be abundant these days, but though I love those, I think I like this print even better. Maybe it's the colors...maybe it's the vintage look. Regardless, this pillow kit is occupying one of the top spots on my wishlist!
3. "Heart it Races" - Dr. Dog (Architecture in Helsinki cover)
And last but not least, I'll leave you with this fantastic cover of "Heart it Races." Listen to it, and I dare you not to get it stuck in your head. It's been stuck in mine for days, and I've been smiling the whole time. Enjoy!

Thursday Three: 1.24.13
1. Signeroo
Ladies and gentlemen (who am I kidding - it's mostly ladies), I have a serious style crush on Signe of Signeroo. I was lucky enough to stumble upon her blog on Chictopia the other day, and I'm absolutely hooked! She's only been blogging since October, but I can already tell she's one to watch. She wears oxblood/maroon/burgundy/whatever-you-want-to-call-that-trendy-dark-red-color like a champ, and her dark locks are giving me some serious hair envy. So, pop on over to her blog and say hello!
2. Super-skinny rings
I'm not typically a big jewelry person - I've been wearing the same necklace and earrings daily for years - but as soon as I saw that skinny gold heart ring on Ruche, I fell a little bit in love. Much to my sadness, it was already sold out when I found it. Don't you just hate it when that happens?
Luckily, there are plenty of other options around the web. I'm particularly smitten with this handmade crescent moon ring by GramercyEight on Etsy. She has quite the incredible story: last year, she fell 30 feet, shattered three vertebra, and severed her spine in half. Miraculously, she's going to make a full recovery, but in the meantime, making jewelry is a big part of her healing process. Please check out her shop - she does beautiful work!
This last item should come as a surprise to...absolutely no one. I mean, really: it's a turquoise and red fox-print dress custom-made in the UK with organic cotton. Does it get any better than that? No. No, it does not. I've been thinking for a while how wonderful it would be to get a dress tailor-made for my body, and I'm also trying to make an effort to shop with a more ethical mindset. What better way to do both than to invest in a dress like this? It would be one of the priciest items of clothing I've ever bought, but like I said, it would be an investment in a timeless, classic piece. As soon as I save up enough money, you can bet that this dress will find its way into my closet.

Thursday Three: 12.13.12
Has it really been a month since I've done a Thursday Three? Somehow, that doesn't seem possible! Without further ado, here are three things I'm loving this week:
Continuing my streak of loving all things nerdy and British...words cannot describe how much I really, really want this teapot. (I bet it's bigger on the inside!) Chris and I have almost completely made our way through the Doctor Who revival, and we're having so much fun. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself when we've caught up; I hate having to wait for new episodes to air!
2. "Laura" - Bat for Lashes
Since my name is Laura, is it completely narcissistic of me to love this song? If it were mediocre, and if I just liked it for its name alone, I might be inclined to think so...but it's actually really lovely. The first description I read of this song called it "haunting," and I really can't think of a more fitting word. Give it a listen for yourself and let me know what you think!
Because of heading up the DIY section for the local magazine I write for, I've been looking at a lot of DIYs in the past few weeks. And this? This is the cutest one I've seen in a long time. Maybe I'm just biased because I love foxes, but I doubt it. Daria's tutorial is just darling! I've never done felting in my life, but this might just spur me to try it.

Thursday Three: 11.15.12
1. The most perfect house
I'm home sick from work today, and all I really want is to be as cozy as possible - and this tiny house looks like the perfect place to do it! For the life of me, I can't find any information about this place, but I'm going to make it my life goal to have a house just like it. (Probably with the exception of the antlers hanging at the top.)
Contrary to what my friend Tom thought, this is not a tutorial on how to have warm feet (though I'm sure it would do the trick nicely). Instead, it's a tutorial on how to break in your shoes if they're too tight - and it's incredible! My right foot is just bigger enough than my left that buying shoes can sometimes be a pain, so I'm grateful I found this. It can't work miracles, necessarily, but I've tried this on two pairs of shoes to great effect. Try it out yourself, and let me know how it works!
Chris and I have been on somewhat of a British TV kick, so I felt I would be remiss if I didn't tell you all about Sherlock. In case you couldn't guess, it's a modern reimagination of the Sherlock Holmes stories. This is the one show I recommend pretty much everywhere I go. Everything about it - the acting, cinematography, writing, everything - is just brilliant. It's funny and suspenseful and has a villain that ranks up right next to Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker. There are only six episodes (though they're each an hour and a half), so it's not a huge time commitment - and just see if you can hold back the tears at the end of season 2's last episode. I'd tell you more, but it's better if you go in spoiler-free and just enjoy it for yourself.
And on that note, Chris and I are going to make (more) homemade hot chocolate and watch (even more) Doctor Who. Have a great weekend, everyone! What are you loving this week from around the web?

Thursday Three: Animal Print Edition (10.25.12)
I love animal prints. And when I say animal print, I don't mean leopard spots or tiger stripes or anything like that at all. (My sister has always loved that sort of thing; I could never get into it.) No, friends, I mean prints that have an actual animal on them. There's an element of kitsch to them that I just adore. So here's my roundup of my favorite animal-print sweaters! Without further ado:
Everything about this sweater is perfect: the cut, the color, and yes, those sweet little puppy paw prints. I would have worn this to death in my dog-crazy stage when I was 8. Oh, who am I kidding - I'm still dog crazy. And I would still wear this to death today.
I have adored this sweater ever since it first came out in gray ages ago. There's just something about the absurdity of a bunny wearing glasses juxtaposed with the seriousness of said bunny's expression, I suppose. This is the type of statement piece that I would completely build outfits around. It's too perfect! Now that it has come out in the loveliest shade of green...well, I'm not sure I'll be able to resist much longer. And speaking of not being able to resist:
I am happy to say that this sweater is on its way to my closet! Lily of Love Charles Vintage alerted me last week to the fact that Rachel was selling this in her shop, Fawn on a Lawn, and...well, do I need to explain?

Thursday Three: 10.18.12
As I may or may not have mentioned before, I sometimes feel like a bit of an anomaly in the blogosphere because I'm not a cat person. Cats are okay, and I'll grant you that they can be downright adorable, but I'd prefer a dog any day of the week. But this? Is a perfect outfit. I'm pretty sure I gasped a little bit when I saw it. I'm now trying to imagine how I could replicate this look...I know the dress isn't DIY, but it sure does inspire me to try DIYing a printed dress of my own. A fox print, perhaps?
When I was five years old, my mom took me to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto. It's safe to say that my life was never the same - and neither were my parents' eardrums. I played that soundtrack to death, and used to stand on top of our kitchen chairs and try to sing like Christine Daae. To date, I've now seen this show live six times (yes, six; I figure I might as well come clean about my nerdiness). I credit Phantom for my undying love of all things musical theatre.
All of that is to say - you can imagine my sheer excitement when I saw that the 25th anniversary performance is now on Netflix! I watched it in its entirety on Friday night and it is absolutely stunning. If your only exposure to the show was the 2004 movie and you can't make it to Broadway, I urge you to please check out this 25th anniversary video. (A little bird told me that if you don't have Netflix, you might just be able to find the performance in its entirety on YouTube...) Nothing can ever quite capture what it's like to see a Broadway show, but this comes darn close.
I could ramble on about Phantom for hours...now you know my nerdy little secret! I'll make up for my long-windedness by keeping this last item brief:

Thursday Three: 10.11.12
I've been wanting for a long time to have some sort of feature on this blog where I can share random things I'm loving around the interwebs - but keep it brief and to the point. So, welcome to the Thursday Three! Let's get started:
Someone really needs to do me a favor and buy this dress from Ruche before I can, because I am irresistibly tempted to buy it myself, and I shouldn't! But can you blame me? It's the perfect rust color, with just enough detail to keep it interesting and it's classic and easy to remix...okay, I'm tempting myself again. As of last time I checked, there are only three left, so if you want it, you better hurry!
Today has been a really hard day for me, mentally and emotionally, but looking at this ridiculously adorable corgi puppy from Emergency Cute Stuff, I can feel my spirits lift a little. I don't use Twitter, but you better believe I'll be following their tweets! The noise I made when I saw this picture...well, let's just say it wasn't very attractive. Someday I'll get a corgi of my own...mark my words!
I love Sufjan Stevens, but I have to admit, I was prepared to be totally weirded out by his latest offering - the track "Christmas Unicorn" from his massive upcoming 58-track Christmas box set, Silver and Gold. I mean, it's called "Christmas Unicorn," for goodness sake. But you know what? It's really catchy, and I actually...kind of love it. It starts out a slowly, but it grows to a Sufjan-esque explosion of sound by the end. There's a big part of me that thinks we're watching his slow descent into utter insanity, but I'm sure enjoying the ride. For those who absolutely refuse to listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, have no fear - this song sounds nothing like your average Christmas song. Listen to the track (be warned: it's 12 minutes long) and let me know what you think!
