Oh, be joyful

dress: Sugarhill Boutique (via Modcloth) | belt: vintage | tights: Target | shoes: thrifted

Well, ladies and gentlemen (mostly ladies, I'm guessing) - I've done it. I've found the perfect dress for me. When I saw this on Modcloth, my initial instinct was to buy it right away...but I'm always hesitant about spending more than $50 on any item of clothing. So I waited. And I waffled. And finally I decided to go for it. I mean, how often do you find a dress that 1) has a print of your favorite animal on it 2) has your favorite kind of collar 3) is versatile enough that you can wear it with just about anything? No regrets. You'll probably be seeing this dress an awful lot, so I hope you like foxes and Peter Pan collars as much as I do.

The first time I wore this dress out, a ton of people who know about this blog remarked on how amazing it was that I actually found a dress with foxes on it. One guy even called it my superhero costume. And you know what? I love that. By day, I'm Laura, mild-mannered writer/graphic designer. But by night? I'm the Joyful Fox, spreading cheer all throughout the internet. Or at least trying to!

It's been a busy week here at Joyful Fox headquarters. (Makes it sound so official, doesn't it?) September is always that way, even though I'm not in school anymore. It's crazy busy even with birthdays alone. It used to be that my dad was the only one in the family with a September birthday, but then we adopted my sisters, and they both have September birthdays, and my brother's wife has the same birthday as my sister, and Chris's dad has the same birthday as my dad...craziness! I'm trying to be a little bit more creative with gifts this year, and I'm hoping to work my way up to getting all handmade or DIY gifts for everyone for Christmas. We'll see how that goes!

Speaking of resolutions of sorts, I'm going to try to be better about getting back to people who ask questions in the comments. There's no great way to do that, since as far as I know, Blogger doesn't let you know when someone has replied to one of your comments. So if you ask a question, check back in the next couple of days and I should have a response up! (As a side note, I also now have an email address set up for this blog, so you can also contact me directly at thejoyfulfox [at] gmail dot com.)

I hope you're all having a beautiful start to your autumn! As mentioned above, mine has been rather hectic so far, but I'm loving it. It's good to stay busy. Like so many other bloggers, I've been trying to convince myself that it's cooler outside than it really is - drinking hot tea and pumpkin spice lattes (is that a cliche now? I don't care, it's delicious), wearing tights and cardigans, and bundling up in blankets. Unfortunately, the highs are still in the 80's here, but it's only a matter of time! Are you trying to squeeze in as many summer activities as possible, or are you (like me) ushering in fall with eagerness and open arms?

  4. I'm definitely one of those people who try to convince themselves that fall is here when it's still 80-something degrees outside. It sort of works if I stay inside all day!

And this dress! It's so perfect for you! The print is amazing and that collar is super gorgeous. I love how the back scoops and the collar is still there being all cute and wonderful. I'm excited for you to wear this dress many many more times!

I'm still clinging to summer! I always do. Unfortunately, it actually is fall here and I need cardigans and all that stuff that I hate. :D

  18. This Sugarhill Boutique dress from Modcloth is using a knocked off version of my artwork as the pattern on it. I would be forever grateful if you would remove this post since it is featuring knock-off merchandise, and support the small artist who did the original hard work.
