Ce n'est pas facile d'être vert

dress/matryoshka ring: ModCloth | cardigan: H&M | oxfords: Charlotte Russe | green ring: borrowed from my sister

Green has always been one of my favorite colors, and I suppose it's been having sort of a "moment" in my closet lately. Last time I went thrifting, I picked up 2 green sweaters; I got a vintage green cardigan for Christmas; and I can think of at least 3 green dresses I've bought in the last couple of months. So when I noticed that my outfit had a bit of a green theme going on - what with my green dress, green ring, green book (and green eyes, but I suppose I don't have much control over that!) - I decided to just embrace it and take photos by the green door. I'm a little early for St. Patrick's Day, perhaps, but I'll just look at it as practice!

Green just seems to be one of those colors that keeps recurring in my life. It's my oldest brother's favorite color, too. I remember that when we were growing up, he would only write in green pen. Never blue or black, ever. I can recall one particularly humorous conversation when my dad needed him to sign some official papers for the adoption of my sisters, and since they were official, it needed to be in blue or black. It took some convincing, but he finally signed...we always give him a hard time about that! All for the love of green...

(This picture isn't necessarily my favorite, but I enjoy that it (quite misleadingly) makes me look very tall. I'm 5'2", for the record.)

Have any of you read this book? It's really fantastic. It's all at once sad and funny and gross and enlightening and just overall really well written. I have such a writing crush on Jonathan Safran Foer anyway, so to have him write about food - well, it's a match made in heaven for me! I still haven't read his latest, though...

I must say, I  had a fantastic college experience, but one thing I do enjoy about being graduated is that I now have time to read for pleasure!

And now it's back to my reading! What are you reading now?

  1. I love green too! I'm a bit jealous of the awesome door you have as a backdrop. Oh, the story of your brother and the green pen is so cute.

p.s. I'm reading Anna Karenina and it's turning into the perfect winter book.

    1. Thank you so much! :) I've heard the name of that book, but I really don't know anything about it. What's it about?

I haven't seen the film yet. I've got mixed feelings. I feel like it's really difficult to translate Foer's books to the screen, because he always has so much going on. But perhaps I'll see it eventually!

  9. green is indeed a wonderful color. Unfortunately I don't have many things in green, because i find it quite difficult to find beautiful green items, but I have a green trench, that I looove! Unfortunately it's too cold at the moment to wear it ;-(

  16. That green dress is awesome! Green is definitely one of my favorites too, even though I don't have all that many green things in my closet. I really enjoy the green theme in your outfit, though!
Also, I can't wait until I have substantial time to read for pleasure. I usually get about 10 minutes in bed at night before I'm too tired to read any more. So sad.

  17. You remind me of my friend Bernadette who loves everything green. That green dress is just perfect for St. Patrick's Day! And I love it that you paired it with a yellow/mustard cardigan. Lovely blog! Follow each other? Following yours now... :)

    1. It's by Jonathan Safran Foer and it's called Eating Animals. It's about...well, eating animals! It gets into the reasons why we eat meat and the impact it has. Definitely pretty brutal at parts :/

  19. I have a tendency to post pics where I look taller to. It's a weakness of mine. As for green, I have very little of it in my own closet. I'm having a neutrals moment, so green may just be the thing to get me out of it.

    1. Thank you! Ooh, which ones have you read? This one is excellent. It's nonfiction and includes some investigative-journalism-type work, so it's a little different from his other books. Really excellent, though :)
