Running, returning

dress: vintage | belt: Forever 21 | shoes: Payless

It never ceases to amaze me how many lovely photo spots are just waiting to be discovered in plain sight. There is a wonderful bike trail close to my house - I must have been on it hundreds of times - and yet in all these years, I had never been to this particular spot. Maybe it's because I was afraid of trespassing...but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you want to get a good photo location, you're probably going to have to trespass at some point. Anyway, there was no sign prohibiting entry here, so Chris and I stepped off the beaten path and found this lovely little place at sunset. The sun was beating down and I was developing blisters, but I hardly noticed. I've found a new favorite place. I can't wait to return and see how tall the corn gets (much taller than me, no doubt - though that would be no great feat).

Another new favorite? This hairstyle. I am notoriously awful at doing my hair. My two standby hairstyles are 1) down and wavy, or 2) up in this bun, as seen in many of my outfits posts. Occasionally I'll mix it up and do a half-up bouffant. But everything else - even "easy" tutorials found on Pinterest - are just totally lost on me. But on a whim, I decided to try this tutorial from Love, Blair...and it actually worked! Granted, mine wasn't as smooth or perfect-looking as hers...but it served me well for a few days, and worked beautifully when I pulled it up into a bun. I'll definitely be returning to this look over the course of the summer.

That seems to be something of a theme in this post: discovering, and the promise of returning.

I hope everyone's summer is going well! Except for a little cold I've picked up from my dad, mine is going wonderfully. I finally made it over to Lake Michigan last Saturday with my niece and nephew...we had an awesome time burying each other in the sand and splashing in the waves. They're so precious, and I miss them already. I've decided I can't wait six months to see them again, so I'm going to plan an autumn trip out to Maryland to see them, and then to Virginia to visit a friend. So as well as this summer is going...bring on fall, I say!

Be sure to head on over to Miss Indie's June giveaway - you could win, among other awesome prizes, a custom line portrait drawn by Chris!
