Cabin fever

cardigan, scarf: vintage | tank top: Target | shorts: ModCloth | oxfords: Charlotte Russe

You know how a lot of style bloggers plan out their outfits to fit with a certain theme? Well, I definitely do that sometimes - but it kind of happened in the reverse this time around. After I put this on, I realized that it would be a perfect outfit for cozying up in front of a fireplace in a cabin in the woods. And ever since then, I haven't been able to get that fantasy out of my head. (I would need more practical shoes, though.)

It's cabin fever, I guess you could say, but not the kind that usually strikes this time of year. I am looking forward to the warmer weather - which we're actually getting in spades here - but I will really miss the endless possibility of warm layers.

This outfit was kind of a happy accident. I had been trying to figure out different ways to style these shorts (this is how I normally wear them, and actually how I had been wearing them earlier this day). I had been toying with the idea of pairing them with this scarf...so the other day when I got home from work, I took off the red cardigan I had been wearing and I just started throwing on whatever I saw first. I ended up really liking how it turned out.

When will I learn that it's often the spontaneous inspiration that makes the best outfits?

I enjoy how in the above picture I really look like I'm all serious and posing, but I'm really just trying to get that strand of hair out of my mouth. It's funny how photos can look one way, when the actual event was quite different. It reminds me of a photoshoot I was doing for my mom's vintage wedding dress business a couple years ago...we had been taking photos all morning and I hadn't eaten, and so in order to get a wistful look on my face, I thought about waffles.

And you know what? It worked. That photo ended up being one of the best photos of the day. Lesson learned: in order to get great expressions in photos, think of food, or getting that annoying strand of hair out of your mouth, or really anything other than the fact that you're getting your picture taken.

    1. Oh my, I wish I could say that I am a natural redhead...it's been quite a while since I've seen my natural hair color, but I believe it's just a basic brown. Thank you for the compliment! :)

  13. You look so pretty Laura! I love the green cardigan with the shorts (in fact I love the green cardigan full stop). Often when I get something that's really bright or has a busy pattern I'll wear it with something simple or black first, but I always end up loving it so much more when I've mixed in some colours/patterns. Plus, all these colours are super vibrant with your hair and complexion!
