La vie en rose

dress: Charlotte Russe | shoes: Forever 21 | belt & hat: vintage

Since I was so desperate to have this dress, I was able to convince my sister to give it to me as an early birthday gift last year. The little rosy pattern was unlike anything I'd ever owned before, and it was the perfect mix of comfortable and dressy. I have to say, it hasn't become the hardy favorite I had expected; the material tears and frays far too easily, and I am not exaggerating when I say that this dress is actually held together with superglue in more than one location.

But you know what? I almost love the dress more for that. It's fragile and temperamental and falling apart, but it's got real character. I think it'll be hanging in my closet for a long time to come.

It's far too chilly for this outfit right now (Michigan can't quite make up her mind about the temperature) but it's nice to reminisce about the unseasonably warm weather we had. I actually hadn't planned to take photos on this day, but Chris talked me into it. I really should listen to him more often, because these are some of my favorite photos we've ever done. The lighting was dreamy and the line of trees looks...almost elegant, I think.

It's funny how you see a place so many times that you don't even really see it anymore...this park is less than a minute walk from my front door, and I think I've completely taken it for granted.

And so, in a series of surprise endings: this dress is falling apart (but lovely for it), I wasn't in the mood to take photos (but they turned out perfectly), and I've decided that this hat, which I thought almost silly at first, is far too wonderful to sell. Oh, life...

Is there an item in your closet that's falling apart, that you keep restoring back to life?

  7. That dress is lovely, I love anything with a floral print. I have a dress that always frays at the hem and I've sewn and resewn about a hundred times- but I won't give up on it! It's just too pretty. I hope yours lasts for awhile too :)

  9. You look lovely! The print on your dress is just darling, and I really like all the trees in your background too. I have a few slips that are in need of repair. One has about 5 safety pins holding it together! Oops!

  13. You are the absolute sweetest! I always adore your outfit posts, and how there's something more to them then just "here's my outfit, the end." I love all the little details you add. :)

And thank you, so much, for your supportive comments recently. I'm happy to have found a new blog friends in you. :) I truly feel that we are kindred spirits (after you told me about your similar teenage story). One may be surprised to hear that it's difficult for me to be vulnerable on my blog, but I do it anyway because I think it's important to face our feelings head-on instead of ignore them! And, I think it helps when readers feel that they're not alone in their hardships.

  22. What a lovely dress! Shame its already fraying. I actually have a few pieces that I've had to jimmy rig to keep together including a vintage swimsuit that sadly lost its battle with the fray last summer. So sad. PS very cute blog.
